  • Author: Anna

Description

Don’t forget to take note of any special brands I mention in the ingredients. While using these particular brands aren’t required, doing so can really elevate your gourmet cookie game and make it taste that much more sophisticated.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cups Kerrygold salted butter at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon sal1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Arrowhead Mills Organic All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 cup cup Ghirardelli chocolate chips (preferably miniature if you can find ’em)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup Heath Toffee Bits or caramel baking chips
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk (can substitute with dairy free)

Instructions

  1. To begin, you’ll want to be sure to heat treat your flour to ensure that no unwanted bacteria is lurking in your dough. To do this, follow the steps mentioned in the segments above and be sure to allow the flour to cool completely before moving on to the next step.
  2. After your flour has cooled, mix together your butter and sugar until it forms a light and fluffy consistency.
  3. From here, add your vanilla and stir until well incorporated.
  4. Sift in your flour, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Add your milk a tablespoon at a time until the cookie dough comes together. Be careful not to add too much as the cookie dough will become too thin and won’t have that rich cookie dough consistency you’re expecting.
  6. Fold in your chocolate chips, toffee (or caramel) bits, and chopped pecans.
  7. At this point, you can choose to chill your cookie dough in the form of cookie dough bites or chill the entire cookie dough as one large chunk. If you opt to chill your entire cookie dough without portioning it, be sure to use a cookie scoop to dip up the cookie dough when it comes time to eat. If you want to store the dough as cookie dough bites, use a tablespoon to scoop the dough before rolling it between the palms of your hands to form small gourmet cookie dough balls. Place them on a lined baking sheet.
  8. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before enjoying it.

Keywords: gourmet cookie dough

The word “gourmet” typically refers to something that is high quality or especially decadent and luscious. Thus, gourmet cookie dough can be thought of as a wonderfully rich version of traditional cookie dough, packed with all the fixins and composed of only the best and highest quality ingredients around.

Of course, the actual ingredients you’ll use are up to you, but I’ll offer a few brands you should totally try out to make the upcoming gourmet cookie dough recipe that much greater.

What Is the Difference Between Cookies and Gourmet Cookies?

If you’re making bakeable cookie dough (such as this hot cookie dough recipe) as opposed to edible (more on this later), then you should know that regular cookies will likely have only the basic ingredients that you’re used to in the recipe.

A gourmet cookie dough, on the other hand, will typically feature even more of your favorite ingredients with a few other surprising mix-ins for added effect. The result is a deliciously amped up version of the cookie dough you’re used to, and boy, it is SO worth it!

What Is Gourmet Cookie Dough

You shouldn’t eat gourmet cookie dough raw…that is, unless it is edible gourmet cookie dough.

The difference between edible and non-edible cookie dough shouldn’t be down played. One is insanely delicious and safe to eat, while the other is also insanely delicious but definitely NOT safe to eat. So, what is the difference?

Regular gourmet cookie dough will include many the ingredients you swoon over, but the raw eggs and raw flour in the mixture could potentially cause you to fall ill. And while you may not be surprised that the raw egg might cause you issues, you may be a bit startled to discover that raw flour poses a risk as well.

In truth, raw flour can pose as much risk to your health as a raw egg. Both can carry Salmonella and E.coli bacteria unless you cook them thoroughly. And because the flour in regular gourmet cookie dough isn’t yet cooked when you lick the spoon, you’ll want to forgo eating the cookie dough before it’s baked.

Nevertheless, if you think that all your cookie dough eating days are over, think again. You can, in fact, still make gourmet cookie dough that is edible by making a few minor alterations. For example, you’ll want to nix using eggs if you intend to eat your cookie dough, and you should also heat treat the flour before using it.

To heat treat flour, you’ll need to spread your floor on a lined baking sheet and place it in an oven preheated at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 7-10 minutes. Be very careful not to burn. At this point, the bacteria in the raw flour should have cooked off and should be ready for use.

If you don’t want to use an oven, you could also use a microwave. However, doing it this way may cause you to need to use a food thermometer to ensure the flour reaches at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit before going forth with the recipe. To heat treat flour in the microwave, place the flour in a shallow bowl and nuke for at least 30 seconds. After heating, stir the flour to be used in your gourmet cookie dough and test it with your thermometer to see if it has reached the desired temperature.

If the flour needed for gourmet cookie dough needs more heating, try placing it in the microwave at intervals of 10 seconds each until your flour finally reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
