Cookie Dough Air Fryer Recipe

  • Author: Anna
  • Total Time: 7 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼½ cup chocolate chips
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup butter

Instructions

  1. To start making our chocolate chip cookie dough, you are going to want to throw both the butter and the sugar into a large mixing bowl. It is best to have the butter at room temperature so that it can combine a lot easier. Mix these with either a hand mixer or with a whisk until you have an airy and creamy butter mixture.
  2. Now that you have the main base prepared, add all of your other ingredients slowly except from the flour and chocolate chips. This means you should add one ingredient and then mix it slightly just to avoid lumps. Once everything is incorporated and a consistent texture has been formed, it is time to add the flour.
  3. When adding the flour, you want to be relatively careful as it can be easy to put too much in at once and create lumps. Add a little bit at a time and keep mixing. It may seem tedious but the end result is well worth it. Once all of your flour has been added, grab a silicone spatula and gently start folding your chocolate chips into the dough. The reason we use a spatula to fold the chips in is to preserve the air texture we have in the dough while still keeping the chocolate chips intact.
  4. Once your dough is ready, it is best to put it in the fridge for 10-30 minutes. Refrigerated cookie dough is a lot easier to handle as it is less stick. Line your air fryer basket with either a silicone insert or parchment paper and, using a scoop for cookie dough, place as many cookie dough balls in as you can while ensuring that they are spread apart about an inch or two.
  5. Set your air fryer for 350 degrees F and let them cook for 5-7 minutes. Wait until they are golden brown and slightly crispy, or to your liking if you want them chewy.
  6. After this, let your cookies cool down for a couple of minutes before eating. And that’s how easy it is to air fry cookies! If you can’t finish them all, just store them in an airtight container in the fridge and you have 5 days to eat them.

Notes

When it comes to actually making the dough, it is best to take it in steps so that you can get the texture that you want. While you can air fry cookie dough without it ruining the cookies, messing up the dough in the firs place is a surefire way to be left with disappointment.

Using An Air Fryer To Bake Cookies

I’d be lying if I said this method wouldn’t take a little elbow grease, yet in comparison to an oven it is a lot easier.

There are a few things you need to do to prepare and take into consideration while baking, as an air fryer can be somewhat difficult to master if you are new to them.

The main thing you want to try and combat is the mess that you will have afterwards. The air fryer basket can be removed from air fryers and washed separately, which should be done a few times a week. But if you are careful when baking cookies you can make sure there is not enough mess to warrant an immediate cleaning.

(Speaking of cleaning an air fryer, check out my post on tips for cleaning grease from an air fryer oven.)

Most air fryer recipes will recommend this, so you really want to look into getting yourself either silicone air fryer inserts or some parchment paper that can fit snuggly into the air fryer basket. The silicone inserts are great as they are reusable and can be washed super easily. But they can be tricky to find, not to mention that finding one to fit your air fryer basket can be difficult if you do not have a really well-known brand of air fryer.

Parchment paper is a much easier solution if you are struggling to find any silicone inserts. You can simply cut your parchment paper to the size you need. The only thing you should keep in mind is that an air fryer basket has holes in the bottom to help regulate the air flow. It is best to at least try and poke holes in your parchment paper to match this so that the air can still flow freely and bake your cookies evenly.

Not only do silicone inserts and parchment paper help with ensuring there is little mess but they also help stop your cookies from sticking to the air fryer basket. You can naturally grease the air fryer with cooking spray or something similar but that tends to create more mess, the two methods I’ve suggested will have your cookies practically sliding off of them so there is no need to worry about anything sticking!

Another very important aspect to take into consideration is that when you air fry food, it has a much quicker cook time than if you were cooking it in the oven. This is great for a lot of reasons, yet not every chocolate chip cookie recipe will take an air fryer into account. This means that there is a good chance, depending on the recipe you follow, that you will have to improve the timings yourself.

Fret not, however, as air fryers are very convenient when it comes to stopping and starting. You can take the basket out of the fryer as often as you like just to check your cookies and then once you put the basket back in they will immediately start cooking again. There is minimal hassle so you should not be hesitant to interupt them to check on them.

In the spirit of using an air fryer, you might be in need of an even easier way to make cookies. You can try a premade cookie dough such as the Pillsbury chocolate chip cookies that are sold and ready to bake, or you can try a 3 ingredient cookie dough!

However, assuming you want to make the cookie dough yourself, I will give you a nice recipe that you can try out in your air fryer. Although to be honest, it also works in an oven too. We will just call it an air fryer cookie recipe to keep on theme.

Homemade cookie dough is super easy once you know what you’re doing. It can even start being more enjoyable once you take away any of the stress that is sometimes present when making homemade cookies.

Ingredients

For super easy air fryer cookies, you are going to need the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼-½ cup chocolate chips (personal preference)
  • ¼ tsp salt (preferably sea salt but table salt is fine)
  • ¼ cup butter

How to Make Air Fryer Cookies

When it comes to actually making the dough, it is best to take it in steps so that you can get the texture that you want. While you can air fry cookie dough without it ruining the cookies, messing up the dough in the firs place is a surefire way to be left with disappointment.

The reason we use a spatula to fold the chips in is to preserve the air texture we have in the dough while still keeping the chocolate chips intact.

What Makes An Air Fryer So Good?

There are many reasons that make an air fryer so good and almost a kitchen necessity. They are becoming increasingly popular, even to this day, as they provide a simpler alternative to an oven for people who either do not have lots of time or lots of energy. An air fryer can be compared to a microwave but it doesn’t dehydrate your food and ruin the texture.

Mainly, people love air fryers because they are so quick and hassle free. They cook with dry heat that is heated air from a heating element and it is regulated and flows so freely that there is a completely even cook. This means that the food is also going to quick cooker as it is being cooked from all over, so there is no need to stop halfway and turn it over. They are also insanely hassle free as there is no need to preheat an air fryer. You simply set the temperature and time, and just like that you are ready to put food in. Ovens can take upwards of 10 minutes to finally heat up to the desired temperature, in that time you would have almost finished cooking your food in an air fryer.

Another reason why air fryers are so great is because they are electricity efficient. No one wants to spend too much money, if any at all, on bills and some people downright can’t afford it. So any little help that reduces this cost of living is an immediate life saver. While it is heavily dependent on the model of air fryer you have, as well as the wattage and run time, for the most part they are significantly more efficient than an electric oven.

While these are all brilliant reasons to buy an air fryer, there is at least one caveat that I can think of. Due to their size, the room in an air fryer basket is a little limited. This is not a massive thing for one person or maybe a young couple in a new home, but for a larger family it will not be as effective for meal times as you cannot cook lots of food in it at once. While i’m sure there are more, this is the only downside I can think of for an air fryer.

Is It Better To Use An Air Fryer Or An Oven?

When it comes to comparing the two appliances, it will ultimately depend on personal preference and your own unique situation.

Both an oven and an air fryer produce really nicely baked cookies yet they both have different pros and cons. An oven takes longer to preheat but can cook more cookies at once, whereas an air fryer is quicker yet has a limited capacity.

Can you cook cookie dough in the air fryer?

You can! Cookie dough can be baked in an air fryer for under ten minutes at 350 degrees F and will turn out brilliantly. Just make sure to grease your air fryer basket or place parchment paper down to stop the cookies from sticking.

Can you put Pillsbury cookies in an air fryer?

Pillsbury cookie dough can be baked in an air fryer very easily. The main thing to watch out for is the cookies sticking to the basket, so it is best to line it with parchment paper or buy a silicone insert.
